Swap the hard drive for an SSD
The single biggest improvement for an older Vaio VGN-NR21M/S is replacing its spinning hard drive with a solid-state drive. Start-up and everyday tasks become several times faster, the laptop runs cooler and quieter, and we copy your existing system and files across so nothing is lost.
Screen and backlight faults
A dim, flickering or dark screen on the Vaio VGN-NR21M/S isn't always a dead panel. On older Vaios the backlight (CCFL tube and inverter on earlier models, LED on later ones) or the display cable is a common culprit, and we test those before suggesting a new screen.
Keyboard, hinges and casing
Worn keys, a cracked hinge cover or a lid that no longer stays upright are typical on a Vaio VGN-NR21M/S of this age. We source compatible keyboards and hinges and repair broken hinge mounts in the base.
Is it worth repairing?
Sony sold its PC business in 2014, so new original parts for the Vaio VGN-NR21M/S are no longer made. We use quality compatible or reclaimed parts, and we'll tell you honestly whether a repair is worth it before you spend anything.
